In this four-part series, we will work our way through prompts designed to identify and disrupt the cultural, familial, and personal narratives that we’ve absorbed or inherited – that have been written over us or into us – that we’ve tried to fit into or wrestled with. Our final gathering will be a time for writers to share and listen to the stories we’ve disrupted and discovered throughout the series. You do not need to have any experience writing narrative to join us!

Midwest Poetics is an opportunity for artists to hold space for writing, reading, and literature. This workshop series centers connection, conversation, collaboration, and communal learning to heal and ask more questions. We happily give the spotlight to Black and Indigenous vocalists, poets, writers, musicians, and performers of color to celebrate their craft and facilitate our workshops.

The CSF x Hi-Fi House Listening Parties will introduce Hi-Fi’s unique vision of social listening to a new audience of KCMO-based listeners. Multidisciplinary artists from the central Midwest region will be invited to share music from a curated list of vinyl created by Hi-Fi House and Charlotte Street. At the end of each Listening Party, audiences members will be invited to play a record or two!

Local choreographer/dancer/performance artist Alexis Borth will facilitate an improvisational performance titled, “Comedy of Darkness,” based on the photography of Jeff Tamblyn, as part of the ongoing Prodolab series hosted by Charlotte Street Foundation, on March 23rd. A group of local professional dance artists will participate in its creation, with original music by Vena Cova (the performance alias of Kansas City-based composer and musician Colin Blunt).

Charlotte Street 25TH ANNIVERSARY BLOCK PARTY
Join Charlotte Street for a free community block party to celebrate our 25th Anniversary! Enjoy campus-wide family-friendly activities, giveaways, interactive art experiences, and ice cream! The third installation of 25, the Charlotte Street Fellow Anniversary exhibit will also premiere at this event, featuring community engaged public works from Adriane Herman (2007), Kati Toivanen (2001), and Jillian Youngbird (2018), a new mural work from Stephen Proski (2012), and music from Eddie Moore (2019), Jeff Harshbarger (2015), and Marcus Lewis (2019).
